More Thoughts on Customer Service
Some businesses claim they have good customer service. Other business prove it every day. I have been in sales for 15 years and I like to think that I have great customer service. As a company, customer service is a priority for us. A few weeks ago, I learned from a local business that even when you think you have great customer service, you can always do better.
I stopped into a local boutique to pick up a skirt that I had gotten hemmed. The owner offered me coffee or hot cocoa. I’m usually in a hurry and a simple cup of coffee would not have sounded good, but it was freezing outside so I said yes. Then she asked if I wanted regular coffee or, “Starbucks fancy coffee”. I simply said, “With creamer, please.”
I browsed the racks and a few moments later, she brought me coffee that would put Starbucks to shame. It was a tall glass of coffee topped with whipped cream and caramel. It was then that I had a realization: my customer service quality is a styrofoam coffee cup and powdered creamer. It’s good, but it could be much better.
One of my goals for this year is to be known for my whipped cream and caramel customer service. Just a little extra effort makes a world of difference.
