The Importance of CCTV Cameras in Commercial Settings
Most people assume the main reason for the installation of security cameras is to deter theft and wrongdoing or to help identify and apprehend criminals. While these are good reasons for having cameras installed, we have found a new reason emerging among our customers. Installing security cameras has proven very helpful in solving liability issues and workplace discrepancies. These two issues will cost you more money in the long run than any theft!
Have you ever had an employee (or worse… a customer!) get injured on your property? Between the insurance claims and lawyers, it’s a real hassle. Installing video cameras won’t help you stop the injury, but you may be able to use it to defend yourself in court. CCTV footage is admissible as evidence in most courts. (Talk to your lawyer, of course, but be sure and mention the footage as possible evidence against claims filed against you.)
You want to be able to trust your employees and customers, but the fact is the incidence of false claims and general complaints is on the rise. No system Ener-Tel provides can eliminate these, but we can help you curb them with strategically placed cameras. Maybe you have a forklift on site and you have had a few claims of people getting hurt? Place a camera near the forklift and find out for sure what is going on. Maybe you have employees that keep getting into fights but you can’t figure out who is to blame. The installation of cameras around your facilities will slow these issues because employees will feel they are being watched.
We recently had a customer tell us the following story. He owns an auto-service shop with a very loyal customer base. One of the shop’s customers is very particular about his pickup. He cleans it meticulously, services it regularly, etc. He dropped it off for service one morning, and when he picked it up, noticed a ding in the fender. He claimed that one of the shop employees bumped his tailgate with a forklift. There were no surveillance cameras, so it quickly turned into a situation where it was the employee’s word against the customer’s word. As a business owner, whose word do you trust? Loyal customer or longstanding employee? Had our customer had a camera system at the time, this disagreement could be put to rest quickly.
